Employment Opportunities: Additional Selection Criteria (Non-Sensitive Positions)

  1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  4. Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised position within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
  6. Non-U.S. citizen NORs must be eligible for compensation from the American pay plan, i.e., in possession of a social security number (SSN).
  7. Local National employees must have completed their first year of employment with the United States Government (USG) before they become eligible to apply for advertised positions. Local national employees with an indefinite contract (=after the first year of employment) may apply for advertised positions every 6 months. Note: family member positions encumbered by U.S. citizen residents in Belgium (ORs) need to be announced before the one-year contract of the OR employee expires. Therefore these employees are allowed to apply for vacant positions after ten months of service in their first year of employment.
  8. All applicants must be able to obtain and hold a sensitive but unclassified security clearance (SBU).
  9. Incoming EFMs are eligible to apply for vacant positions 90 days prior to their arrival at post.
  10. For positions at USNATO only: Elevator access to higher floors is not conveniently available.
